Punchbowl Falls

This is a photograph of Punchbowl Falls located on Eagle Creek in the Columbia River Gorge, a very popular hike. It was taken from a higher vantage point and later I will post some photos from a lower viewpoint.
Punchbowl Falls is probably the most popular location on this trail. While there are other falls that may be more impressive as far as falls go, the shape and surroundings of these falls make them very picturesque as you will see in future posts.
These falls are about 36 feet tall and I have seen pictures of kayakers going over them. Notice just to the upper left of these falls a natural platform where some people jump from.
This waterfall is actually responsible for the term 'punchbowl' which is often used to describe a type of waterfall. From this vantage point, the falls do resemble a ladle being dipped into a punchbowl.
