Eilean Donan Castle

The Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most well known castles in Scotland and is considered by many to be one of the most picturesque. It is strategically located on an island (island of Donan) at the junction of three lochs. There is evidence of a fortification here in the 600's. A larger structure was built in the 1200's that took up most of the island. In the 1400's for some reason it was reduced in size. It was destroyed in the 1700's and spent the next 200 years as a ruin until it was rebuilt in its present form in 1919 and 1932.  Click on picture.
