Grain Elevator

This grain elevator is located in Dorothy, Alberta southeast of Drumheller. Dorothy was home to about 100 residents in its heyday but is now considered a ghost town with only a few people living there now.It is named after the daughter of an early rancher who first arrived in the area in 1900. It enjoyed it's greatest prosperity in the late 1920's after a railway line was built. In 1928 three grain elevators were built. (ghostowns.com) Only one remains, the one in the photograph below.
Old barns, houses, elevators etc. are the subject of many of my photographs.Unfortunately, many of these structures are disappearing. When it comes to old buildings, photography not only helps us to create fine art, but also helps us to remember and preserve history.
