Oblivious

Summer in Alberta can be very unpredictable. Will it be hot or cool? Dry or wet? This year,in my opinion, has been one of our better summers in a while. We have had a good amount at what you could honestly say was hot summer weather. With that comes the summer storms which not only have the potential to cause damage but can also provide great images as they display both beauty and power.
While driving home one evening it was impossible to ignore the cloud formation off to the east with its amazing color and detail, but I wanted a shot with some interest in the foreground. Fields, trees, hay bales, no problem. Finally we came upon horses grazing in a field. I liked this shot the best as it not only captured the storm, which was my initial goal, but it also had elements now that could create a bit of a story. These horses seemed to be not at all concerned about what was happening behind them. This storm was visually stunning but could also be a danger to these animals. All that interested them at his time however  was feeding. Now obviously, I wasn't expecting the horses to sit there and admire the view. Horses do what horses do. But this photograph could maybe remind us not to be overly concerned with mundane things. It's important to be aware of the beauty that surrounds us but even more crucial that we not ignore imminent signs of danger.
