The Number One Rule In Photography

There are many so called 'rules' in photography that I usually refer to as, suggestions. Photography is an art form and as such, each person will see a particular image differently. But there is one rule that a person should  follow: Always take your camera with you! I will admit, I break this rule far too often. But I have on occasion followed my own advice and the image below is the product.
While driving home from a golf course one evening this past summer, there was an amazing sunset. I pulled over, got out of my truck and walked down the road so that the sun was just behind the trees to produce a nice silhouette. The sky was unusual as it was layered with large banks of cloud that separated colors and created interesting lines in the sky. The sun also brought out layers in the land leading to the horizon as well as the low lying haze. With all of this combined, it made for a photograph with an abstract feel to it. This is one image that I think would really glow if printed on aluminum.
I happened to be in the right place at the right time. In photography, beautiful images are often created, not so much because of the subject, but because of the light. This is difficult to predict. So always travel with your camera.

  1. Beautiful picture Andrew. We are so fortunate that we get to enjoy the most beautiful sunsets here in Alberta. Sometimes we take such things for granted, but as a used-to-be (wanna be) photographer, I remember noticing every little detail about a scene & it sure makes you appreciate what the Creator has given us.
    Have a great day,
